Dear Windy users,

We have prepared a new version of Windy.com that works and looks just like the current version, but uses a completely new mapping library called
Leaflet GL.

This library uses modern web technology, WebGL, which relies heavily on your graphics processor. You should not notice any difference, except for smoother map zooming and movement, better performance with reduced stuttering, and support for gestures like double-tap scrolling.

Since our planned change is really a bold move in terms of the technologies used, we need your help.

We would like to invite you to join our beta testing program and help us test the new version. If you spot any problems, please let us know in the comments. This test currently applies only to the desktop version. The beta test doesn't apply on satellite and radar layers or 3D (globe) mode.

About Leaflet GL

To satisfy our needs, we explored all available mapping libraries and, in the end, developed our own library, called Leaflet GL. Leaflet GL combines source code from both MapLibre GL JS and Leaflet, bringing together the advantages of WebGL performance with Leaflet’s rich ecosystem and easy-to-use API.
